Celebrating Nurses as Catalysts for Health and Economic Growth: PPC Limited Marks International Nurses Week 2025
As the world celebrates International Nurses Week 2025, PPC Limited, formerly Philips Projects Centre and one of Nigeria’s leading engineering and infrastructure development companies with a robust presence in the healthcare sector, has taken the opportunity to recognize the vital role nurses play in shaping the future of healthcare and economic development.
Under this year’s global theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future. The Economic Power of Care,” PPC Healthcare, through its subsidiary BT Health & Diagnostics Centre (BTHDC) in Ikeja, is leading the charge to spotlight how investing in nurses not only improves health outcomes but also strengthens community well-being and national economies.
Free Health Screenings and Wellness Activities at BTHDC
To mark the week-long celebration, BTHDC provided free health check-ups to staff and selected patients, including screenings for blood pressure, blood sugar levels, body mass index (BMI), and more. These activities were designed to emphasize the importance of preventive care and highlight nurses’ critical role in frontline healthcare delivery.
In addition to health screenings, the centre also hosted wellness education sessions and public health talks on topics such as chronic disease management, maternal and child health, nutrition, and preventive healthcare practices. The sessions empowered attendees with valuable information to support healthier lifestyles and encouraged proactive approaches to health management.
Why Investing in Nurses Matters: Expert Insights from PPC Healthcare
Speaking on the significance of Nurses Week, Dr. Emmanuel Iyere, Head of Diagnostics at BTHDC, emphasized the irreplaceable contributions of nurses in patient care and community health.
“Our nurses are at the heart of patient care and public health. Celebrating them is not just about appreciation—it’s a call to action to invest in their growth, well-being, and working conditions. When we care for nurses, we build a stronger healthcare system and a more resilient economy,” he said.
Dr. Iyere further stated that nurses are the backbone of healthcare, particularly in underserved and rural communities. As such, the week was a celebration and an opportunity for PPC Limited to reinforce its community commitment by offering essential health services at no cost.
A Call to Action: Supporting Nurses for a Stronger Nigeria
Beyond recognition, International Nurses Week 2025 serves as a reminder of the urgent need to prioritize the nursing profession in Nigeria. Dr. Iyere called on stakeholders, including government agencies, healthcare institutions, and the private sector, to invest in continuous nurse training, mental health support, fair compensation, and safe working environments.
